History

The name Holyport according to searches on the internet comes from Horig Port. Horig apparently means muddy and Port is an old word for town. So we live in Muddy Town. Horig is also allegedly from the Norsk Language.

I haven’t been able to find out too much about our lovely little village but what I have found out is that it has been used on a number of occasions for filming. Including a Monte Python Sketch,  an TV ad with Joan Collins and film set in the 1920 called “One of our dinosaurs is missing” and ”Happy is the bride”.

Historical figures who have lived in Holyport include Stirling Moss the world famous racing driver.
